Ok, so with more power comes more responsibilty.. for the brakes.
I am presuming that the 2.0hdi brakes are a lesser standard than the 138/180 brakes?
If I was wanting to uprate them.. What is needed? I.e can I just swap the calipers over and get new, bigger, discs?
If this is correct, what about the ABS that I don't have but they do? Does it matter?

same calipers as gti, which runs 266 disc,
180 run 283 disc.
do a search, this has been cover thousands time within last month lol
all 206 run the same size of mc.
if you want bigger brakes you can just swap the calipers+pad+disc.
but to be fair 266 disc is good as long as you put in some decent pad.
you got disc or drum at the back?

i uprated my brakes and i don't have abs not the end of the world if you don't have it.
But it was mentioned to me after that i should have gotten the gti brake master cylinder as well other wise, your still running the same mc with the uprated brakes so might be worth changing that as well, but other wise the new calipers will just bolt on

Cheers. I was thinking of getting hold of some 180 calipers and putting a decent set of pads and discs on.
Drum on the rear. Why?

Cheers GG. However what I meant about ABS is whether I need calipers from a non-ABS due to conections etc. I'm guessing it doesn't matter

bigger and better brake at the front=increasing front bias, under hard braking, since there is not enough rear bias, the front had to take more workload(tyre skid)
and there is no easy way to upgrade rear drum
if you don't have ABS then you can use what ever you like.

it depends on what you want to do really. if just for standard road use apart from making you feeling better than the others it does nothing more
you can either live with it and be more careful when you brake; get some upgrade drum shoe; or get a disc axle and put on some better pad.
and it also down to what tyre and front pad you use as well.

ABS isnt actually on the caliper
I also have some C4 VTS calipers that run bigger discs than the 180 calipers
That i can sell just to you Tom
And are a straight fit as they where on my 206 1.6T
303mm discs aswell compared to 287 or whatever 180's are

I would quote but its getting stupidly long!
So: With the FMIC, map + poss FP and Injector upgrades... I don't feel that my brakes will like me very much. Hence me trying to sort this out in advance. I've noticed recently that under heavy breaking the car doesn't feel stable, this is due to pads and discs being a bit... sh*t. Hence my thinking about this now, rather than replacing them then having to replace them again.
I need new tyres shortly anyway. So they shall be getting upgraded as well.
So, what do you feel I should do?

you don't need FP and injectors upgrade without a bigger turbo. i learn this in a hard way.
a good way to test if you brake is good enough is whether you can lock the brake up in dry tarmac. if you can, that means you don't need better brake, all you need is better tyre!

Upgrading your brakes is more to deal with brake fade rather than braking force.
Put a 180 engine in a 1.1 shell with standard brakes, i bet you i could lock them up..... Once.
The bigger brakes have more area to disapate heat so a lot better at repetitive hard breaking

that's why i am asking what he is going to do with his car lol
if you got brake fade on normal road, you should check your driving style.
if you got brake fade on track, 9 out of 10 is your got the wrong pad. your example is just too extreme.
