My Clutch has gone on my GTi 180, been sat still for the past 2 months as I cant afford to replace it just yet. The crankshaft alignment light is on so it will not turn over. How hard will it be to replace the the clutch myself? I have small amount of mechanical knowledge and access to the proper tools.

Get a haynes manual. It shows you exactly how to do it and you can get a clutch kit fairly cheap. You'll also need an alignment tool. about £15 in halfords. Will take you about a day first time. you'll need a mate to help lift too.
ICE goes in drinks. NOT in cars.

My new full clutch from 'The happy motorist' (google it) cost £73 and included an alignment tool in the box.

An alignment tool isn't needed really, your thumb works well. But it's reccomended.

...To avoid skinned knuckles U can use a piece of broomstick as an alignment tool...It's not perfect, I know, but it works and that's what counts doesn't it...

Love this. Household items make the best tools.. until my mum finds it covered in oil.

easy mate allow a whole day though, and just incase book the next day off too.
dont rush and spend some time taking things off so that you remember where they came from, you'll need more than one jack and a spare set of hands to put the gear box back on as its heavy and awrkard
