The glow plugs on hdi's (and most modern diesels) continue to work for a minute or so after the engine has started for 'cleaner' emissions reasons.

I have never seen heater plug light on my 206SW 1.4 HDi but I am told a fuel heater in fuel filter and a water censor that is with genuine Peugeot fuel filter but third party filters much cheaper as only dummy sockets with no connections so no heater or water sensor, is it the fuel heater that gives the instant start.

I have this exact same issue on my 206. Lumpy cold start for a few seconds and a bit of smoke. Only does it on initial first start when it’s cold then runs absolutely fine. I had a glow plug code on code reader so changed the glow plugs. This got rid of the code but I still get a lumpy cold start.

With my identical issue. I was thinking I had a slight vacuum leak in the fuel system causing the fuel to drain back a little after standing for a while. Either in the rear wheel arch under filler cap next to the sill where two fuel pipes rub together or under the air filter near the prime bulb where it’s also common for two fuel pipes to rub and cause a hole.i looked at these places last year and repaired a hole at the rear with poxy glue. The front was only slightly worn so left it so I’m gonna check both places again when the weather warms up.
