okay so how big a job do u think removing the carpet is gonna be?
im planning on doing it when it gets warmer, because ive had some issues with puddles and stuff, so my aim is to remove the carpet and take it inside and dry it out. then, while thats happening got to find any holes under the car and plug them. then i can replace the carpet. check the door membranes and door seals ect and ill hopefully have a dry 206.
but again...
the carpet.

It's a pain to remove I think..
I lifted it up with the front of it still attached... that's easy enough.
Why don't you just dry it for now? Fan heater left in the car... just make the back seats flat.

1) i dont own a fan heater
2) if i left it in the car overnight, id wake up to either no car...or no heater...most likely both.
so its easier to be able to lock my car and do work ect when i can.
also im not sure, but i think heat treatment inside the car...would catalyst mould growth!

1) Tesco - Very Cheap 
2) ... Oh... lmao =P I left mine in for 6 hours once... worked wonders.
Don't know about the mould thing... Wash the carpet in the car?

Ah i love my tesco trips!
Might look into it! why cant it be summer..(doors open, some tunes on the cd player, sittin back lettin the sun do the hard work! haha

Think you need to remove everything like seats, handbrake surround etc...

if you remove the carpet and clean it or dry it in house they tend to go out of shape, i dont thin you got any holes in floor or the wayer would of drained out of the car, i would guess that the door seels have gone or the drain holes in the bottom of the door are blocked. i use a big gas space heater to dry my cars but you could just leave heaters on full with windows open a little to dry it out.

it's not an easy job my friend,it will take time,and work,because you need to take off your front and rear seats,then take out the center console,and the door seal,because carpet edges is under it,and then it will be out,but if you take it out,and dry it,you need to leave it overnight inside your car before you refit it,so that it takes the car floor shape again.
well my friend,water don't come up from the ground,unless you drove in a wate pudle,and level or the water was higher than your floor,in that case water will enter to the car,but usually as guys said,water gets in from the door seals,and if your car is 3dr,check your rear windows seal,and the last place is from the boot sealcheck all these things,then think of dry your carpet or change it.
Always fix the cause of the problem before you start handling the result,when you discover the leak postion,you can dry it easily,try the wet/dry hoovers,it do magic with this case.
and did you checked your drain holes that comes in the engine bay,maybe water level get over the heather motor,and get in the cabin.
