Hello - please help if you can. The needle on my speedometer has stopped moving when driving along - just stays at zero... all other things on the dash e.g. rev counter, fuel, temperature needles etc work fine. Does anyone have any ideas on what I can do to fix this? on google it told me Peugeot would possibly charge me about £400 to replace some unit - the car is only worth that much so looking for a cheaper home fix if possible. Very grateful for any ideas everyone and thank you in advance. Sophie

Year of 206?

ABS fitted yes / no?

there's 2 totally different ways the speedo's work on 206 depending on the age & fitment of ABS.

Does the odometer still clock up the miles?

Open the door and drive, if the interior light starts flashing and/or you get a beeping sound, then the cluster is knackered.

If not, then it will be the speed sensor.

I'm having the same issue, but my speedo will work every so often.

Lights flash and beep when opening the door whilst moving.

Mustn't rule out wiring problems...

I may be way off, but have you had the cluster out and checked to make sure both connectors are in properly?

Also, can't you buy a second hand cluster to replace it? If the problem is a knackered cluster.

Haven't got a pic but we all know what they look like.

Being the picky sort - I really hate it when people say this. Yes we all know what it looks like - but we all want to see the condition that yours is in!

1) Does the odometer work (if not suggests problem with speed or ABS sensor or wiring)
2) Does engine run slightly differently to before? i.e. low idle speed briefly? Suggests ECU isn't getting speed data from speed sensor (wiring or sensor problem)
3) Does the interior light flash when driving with door open? If it does then it suggests the ECU is getting speed signal from speed sensor or ABS sensor so that excludes speed or ABS sensor)

As mentioned some cars use a combination of speed and ABS sensors to provide odometer and speedo signal to the ECU / clocks but the above can be used as a guide to help diagnose the problem.
