As the title explains, when I'm driving, I can hear a perculiar noise coming from the rear wheels (or somewhere near). I have a 3 door 206 and it sounds like its coming from between the speakers and where the wheel is.
It's not too loud, but it's clear when I'm not listening to music or whatever...
The best way I can describe it is like stones hitting my wheel arch, but it comes and goes.
It's recently passed its MOT and nothing was raised..
Anyone have any idea?

At what points do you get the noise?

you say it sounds like stones hitting the wheel arch, well with the snow melted there's an awful lot more road grit lying than usual, might it not just be stones hitting the wheel arch??

look at your road position, if it's grit it tends to work its way out to the edges as traffic drives through, if you're edging closer to the kerb you'll probably hear more (from the nearside), middle of the road less - unless the road's just been gritted of course.
