ive just had a set of secondhand pug alloys fitted on the motor.
sizing is the same as my steelies, except the tyres are 185/65/R14 instead of 175/65/R14.
ive noticed a rubbing sound when driving around 20 mph, seems to dissapear when driving any faster.
all the tyres have good tread, pressures are spot on , any there's no visable signs of them catching on the skin anywhere.
the motor has very recently had an mot so if there was anything mechanical fualty it would have been picked up.
could it be that the wheels need rebalancing or the tracking checked ?
other than that, im out of ideas.
car is a X reg 206 1.4 auto.

Have you looked to see if the tyres are rubbing on anything? With the wheels on full lock as well?
You have fitted wider tyres than what were on before
What is the offset of the alloys? If you don't know, what Peugeot did they come off?
Unbalanced wheels, you'd notice a vibration.
Tracking shouldn't be affected by changing of wheels.

yep, garage checked this for me.. i had recently asked them to fit alloys that was no good for my car last week, so they checked everything for me and confirmed the size , offset etc was fine.

yes .. 185/65/R14 .. previous steelies was 175/65/R14

had them from a member on this forum, came from a 206

no noticeable vibration , gearing is a bit clunky being the nature of it being an automatic.

On my 306 I had a gap between the arch lining and the tyre. I had a rubbing but when I ran my fingler around the tyre I couldn't find it and only discovered if qhenthe week was off. The lining was missing a fixing and intermittently rubbed the tyre

im pretty sure the fixings are ok but ill recheck that.
hopefully i will only need to jack the car to double check rather than remove each wheel.

Just press each of the linings when it's on the ground. Afterwards it was obvious as my linilng had about 1/4-1/2" movement until it hit the chassis

just had a quick press around , all feels rigid enough.
ill examine it further in better light but from what i can see and feel its all secure.

jack up each wheel and give them a spin to see if you can hear the rubbing noise. Can't think of anything else that's would obviously be causnig the rub as everything else should be well away from the wheel and tyre

will do that tomorrow morning.
only other thing i can thing of is that when they changed the wheels they may have warped a disc and its the brakes rubbing.
failing all that, if i cant find it, ill replace the steelies and see if its gone.
..at least itll point me in the right direction.

nope , checked all those details on here, also at the garage and with the guy i got them from ( whos a member on here too )
also , they arnt aftermarket, they are peugeot 206 alloys.

I don't think it's with the wheel spec unless they are badly damaged somehow but you would have noticed that. Only other thing I can think of is grit trapped in the brake pad face and its rubbing on the disk itself. Bit of a difficult one without hearing the noise or seeing the car

well i jacked it up this morning and there was actually a fixing clip missing from the lining at the back towards the bottom.
certainly not enough movement to get near the wheel , let alone rub against it though.
...so if anyone has a couple of these available i would be happy to send you the cash for them, please pm me if anyone has any.
what i had noticed though is that the discs have got quite a lip on them so im still wondering if this is causing the rubbing sound.

I have a few of the narrow ones left I think - same size as the ones holding the grill to the chassis. Didn't fit the missing one on the front of mine though
