hey all, did a lil search but couldnt find what i was looking for. i have a 1.4 8v 206 and the head gasket has gone. im wondering.. would it be possible to put a 1.6 16v engine in it? if so is there anything in partiular o should know? any help appreciated.

It is still posible that your engine might be ok, and might only need a new head gasket.
Im sure you can put a 1.6 8v engine straight in, not sure about the 16v though

Getting the head gasket replaced & the head skimmed will be cheaper than an engine swap & more insurance.

the mechanic said the head gaskets gone and wants 400 to do repair work, but i can get an engine cheaper lol, wouldnt mind a 1.6 8v but would prefer 16v if possible

Do the head gasket yourself, its not a big job.
And take it to a metal worker to get it skimmed, it posible it might not even need to be skimmed.
It wont cost that much at all if you do it like this

ooh na lol im not that mechanically minded lol, i have some one to do the job for me but would like abit more power and dont mind the extra cost. so if i were to get a 1.6 16v engine what is needed to successfully complete the job?

Gotta love this forum. So many other forums are like "Put a turbo on it!!!" - people on here actully make sense 
It'd make more sense to get your head gasket done, not change it.
Think about if you ever want to sell it, someone's viewing it, it's meant to be a 1.4 and it's been chnged to a 1.6. Personally, I'd see that as dodgy and walk away.

Agree with above answer, you can just skim the head and replace the head gasket, if you are unable to perform the job by yourself and this job will cost you more pounds than a new engine, go ahead with the new engine, but you will need the following to swap with 16v 1.6 engine:
1-Gear box and some other mechanical things like suspension components, brakes...etc.
2-ECU with all wiring & new BSI too, the new ECY is amust for the 1.6 & 16v engines as you can't operate you current ECU with the 16v engines unless you had the 1.4 16v engine.
By another mean, get the front half of a crashed 206 1.6 16v and take all possible parts from it then swap to your 206!!.

I would'not have a clue, it would more than likely be cheaper all round to buy a 1.6 16v pug than to change the engine. Insurance will sky rocket.

Its going to be very expensive, youd be better off fixing it then selling the car and buying an XSi mate. If you want to do an engine swap its pretty much pointless going from 1.4 to 1.6, the power youd gain for your money is not worth it at all.

I wouldn't recommend such a big engine like this to be fitted in a small car like 206, the engine is bigger in size too and will require some modifications to be fitted correctly in your 206.

iknow someone has done it on here before .. i want my pug to be faster but i don't want to get a new one to much money sweat tears nd blood spent on this lol
