Hi all
Im looking at getting a new engine for my car as the signs are leading to a possible cracked cylinder liner and heard that for the hassle of changing this, i might aswell get another engine for my car.
Currently i have a tu3jp kfx engine (1.4 8v), after looking on ebay etc ive seen both kfw and kfx engines for sale. If im right in thinking the KFW engine has the cat in the manifold along with 2 lambda sensors. Where as the kfx engine has an under car cat and just one lambda sensor in the front down pipe. Other than this what are the differences in the engines, different sensors, locations number of sensors etc?
Thanks in advance for replies and advice given.

Its an option but then would it not complicate matters with the ecu, imobilisers etc? Along with having to notify dvla and insurance company meaning my premium going up.

Ideally i would skip the hassle of having to get the ecu remapped, and just swap for another 1.4 8v engine. Im not fussed about doing it to gain more power as the reduced mpg would outway the gains atm.
Although if one came up for the right price i would probably go for it.

In that case you are better of getting the KFX engine as it will match with all the sensors e.t.c.
I personally have no idea about the difference in the KFX & KFW but it would make sense to stick with the one you currently have ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)

among the already mentions issues withchaning to the 1.6, a lot of insurance companiess won't touch you with a bigger engine installed and then you also will be paying more road tax.

What of course, i forgot, 1.4 and 1.6 8 valve engines look entirelly different
So much so when i put a 106 1.6 engine in, i thought i secretly put in a V8

Insurance company aint really going to find out if it is a 1.6 unless they do some serious measuring of the combustion chambers, i say go ahead with a 1.6, well worth it ![Wink Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif)

The 1.6 8v engine is:
Thirsty
Gutless
Expensive on road tax
More to ensure

So insurance companies don't check engine numbers against the V5? DVLA don't have a list of engine numbers already in cars and will automatically change it to a 1.6 when the engine number is changed to avoid problem 1?
Changing the engine and not telling DVLA/Insurance is the easiest way to get prosectued for driving without insurance come accident time. I know someone who put a 1.8 Zetec in his 1.4 focus and didn't tell anyone. When someone hit the back of him all hell broke loose the insurance company said his policy was invalid, informed the police who promptly came round and took the car. ![Mad Mad](images/smiles/icon_mad.gif)

To be honest my 1.4 8v is thirsty enough at times as nine out of ten times im only travelling at most 10 miles. Either to work or into town. As i said before i wouldnt go out my way to put a 1.6 in unless it was a good price i.e. less than a 1.4.
As for the extra power gains im really not fussed as im trying to build up some no claims so that when the time comes i can insure a quicker car. And untill then will be repairing/restoring said car.
