Hi team.

I recently bought a Peugeot 206 1.4 2002 Reg and have noticed that the majority of lights don't illuminate on the instrument panel / speedo dash when the engine is turned on.

As per usual, when you turn on the ignition, the lights illuminate for a certain period of time, then they turn off once the engine is running.

I took the instrument panel out expecting to see a few bulbs which have gone but noticed that there are no bulbs at all, but a circuit board, attached with tiny 'inbuilt LED's' (sorry for the bad explanation but I'm not too sure how else to explain it!)

Does anyone know how to fix this? I assume the lights illuminate to ensure that if there was a problem when driving, these lights would be able to alert the driver.

To give an example, the red STOP light is one which does not illuminate once the key is turned in the ignition.

Does anybody know if there are certain fuses for certain lights? LED?

Sorry if this has already been posted or answered. I did search but couldn't find an answer.

Any information on this would be really appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Kevin.

Moved to problems section.

It's possible some LED's have gone, but seems unlikely. It's not a massive job to replace them if they are.

Hey
thanks for replying so quickly!
my car doesnt actually have a dashboard dimming option.
I know where abouts your referring to as I've seen a 206 which does.
Also. about 5 or 6 lights illuminate when the engine starts, and they are fully illuminated, and not dim.

Thanks though!

any other suggestions!?

Thanks Dabamash
Sorry for posting in the wrong section!

Also it seems like some experience in circuitry or soldering would be needed to change these?
or am I wrong?

If it seems unlikely would it be an issue somewhere else in the car?

Have you try adjusting the brightness with the little pin near the fuel gauge press and hold.

As mentioned above, the left hand pin in the display adjusts the brightness, does the stop light come on the first turn of the key? It only lights with the engine running if you have a fault.

Hi Nick180
Thanks for your response.
I have tried the pin next to the fuel gage and it only brightens or darkens the existing illuminated lights

Hi Steve206
Also, thanks
No, the STOP light does not come on at all when the ignition / engine is initially turned on, along with many other lights.

I've hosted two pictures below.

Picture 1 are the number of lights and what they are when my engine is started.

Picture 2 is from a friend of mines, a Peugeot 1007 and what lights appear when she starts her car.

I understand that its a different model, but the Instrument Panel lights are the same (when not illuminated) and I would assume the same instrument lights would illuminate when the engine starts.

Thanks again guys!

Looks about right. I dont think you have ABS, Lee might be able to answer the stop light question.

Really?
What about the oil light? passenger airbag light? (this comes on when I disable the passenger airbag) and shouldn't the stop light come on at this point as well?

Also... whos lee? (sorry I'm new!)

Thanks.

In that picture the engine is running, so the stop light shouldn't be on. You have a airbag fault tho, and need it code read, you also need a service.

Could try and softboot the BSI to sort the fuel gauge problem

Hi Lee
Thanks for responding.
In the picture, the engine has just been turned on, but it was hard for me to snap a picture just before the engine started. I can however, guarantee that the stop light does not come on at all, even when the key is turned just one.

Can I ask how can you tell that I have an Airbag fault? And how can you tell that I need a service?!

Thanks Lee.

If the airbag light and eml light are staying on when then engine is running then there are faults. Plus if the service spanner is staying one, then you need a service shortly.

This is the start up procedure on a Mux 206
