My girlfriend has been driving a year, she's got a Ka Luxury at the moment. she loves it, but its slow and has got lots of rust all over it, so she wants to get something different ideally.

She's been looking at getting a 206 CC (because beetle cabs are too expensive) it's quite a bit on her insurance compared to the 1.3 ka, so it's a difficult choice.

She wasn't an SE model, so she gets all the digital extras and pretty interior, but that spec only seems to be with the 2.0 model, which is havoc with insurance.

The 1.4 206 SE I had before was a great car, and never let me down (although the suspension, in hindsight was very boatlike), plus my 180 has been good to me, but I haven't had any experience with cabriolets at all.

Does anyone know of a 1.6 SE model? and in general, how do people rate the CC model?

Basically, would a 1.6 S or 2.0 SE CC be a worthwhile upgrade from a ka? I think it would, but is the insurance price justified?

Thanks guys Smile Wink

EDIT: don't be afraid to suggest better/cheaper alternatives! Although I've probably been through them with her!

I've ragged a 1.6 around the estate and it seemed pretty nippy. The handling wasn't any different to the hatchback really, same with the gadgets

What about a E36 convertible?

This is nice, e46 tho - cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-BM...142wt_1139

No a BMW would be more I'd have thought? I couldn't get insured on an e46 before I got my 180!
Plus I doubt they're girly enough for her Laughing

she wants something smaller. She likes the yaris, the beetle convertable and 206 convertible. But not mx5 or roadsters, unfortunately for me Laughing

I think fwd would probably be best, as she's only been on the road a year and she throws her ka around pretty hard! Haha! I wouldnt mind if it didn't feel like it was going to tip over! If she keeps it I'm fitting new suspension!

You can get E46 318's for half the price of that one.

The compact is probably less, the 316 I think.

The space is terrible in the rear and also if you have anything that is not flat in to boot i.e bags of shopping etc the electric roof will crush it as it folds down

Also it roof has its own ecu and if the roof go,s out of sequence it will just stop where ever it is and will need to be reset

Thats to only things i can think f my head wrong with them

I've heard a few cases of leaky roofs.

Yeah leaks were a big issue I was thinking of. Heavy handling and a dodgy roof? Hmm. Not sounding promising! Lol. I think less room would help, she wouldn't make such a mess then! Laughing

The price of the actual car isn't the problem Iain, it's the insurance! I'll have a check though!

Just asked. "because it's another ka" lol. she likes the 206 more apparently!

I looked at beemers and they're too expensive for a decent one. Plus apparently they're too big and manly anyway.

Find a local garage with one on the forcourt and get her to take it for a test drive, see if she likes it and look for any signs of leaking roofs etc
