So it seems my Aircon compressor has kicked it in the GTi 138. I had a guy diagnoise it and estimated it would take 3-4 hours to change it and have it up and running (if the compresor wasn't contaminated) and 7-8 hours if the compressor was contaminated. I am still awaiting a quote from him currently.

Does this sound right to you guys? Seems quite alot of time to change the compressor? Iasked a friend who has access to autodata and it came up 1.7 hours to change. I assume there's other processes which are not accounted for in the time to change it. I know the engine bay is tight and changing anything is a pain but this does seem quite alot of time.

Has anyone had their A/C compressor changed in a GTi/GT/GT180 here?

I really wanted my Aircon back but seems its going to cost an arm and a leg at the moment.

Any help/ advice appreciated Smile

I've removed one in just over an hour and I'm no expert.

Thanks for the info guys, had a feeling I was being mislead just by the times he estimated.

Mr_Cellexe, I may well be interested in one of your spares if I can get it put on fairly cheap/reasonbly.

Would need one for a multiplexed 2002 GTi 138 with the usual DAC and CC.

I rarely trust garages now, was quoted £700 to fix my old saxo, all it had was a wet electrical wire so it wouldn't start! we fixed it for the price of a crate of beer (RAC man over road from my bro)

Yeah I know what you mean, I am the same, Usually have my mobile Mechanic come to me but Aircon isn't something he does.

Anyone have any good resources for removing/refitting the A/C compressor on the EW10J4, my manuals only cover TU engines.

I don't see any reason why it would take more than a couple of hours at most...including regassing it. Access is easy so that's not a problem.
