They originaly changed the coil but that didnt fix it. Then they ran a compression check and cylinder 1 is much lower on compression than the others. They have quoted about 6 hours labour at £250 and about £125 for parts plus vat. So close to £500 in the end.

Another possible thing is that a valve has dropped. It sounds like a bag of nails when its running, and the short 300 yard limp to the garage put errors up like 'catalytic converter fault' and 'anti pollution fault', also came up was ESP/ASR not functioning.

Cheers guys

that doesn't sounds like head gasket to me.

if one cylinder has low compression did they put some oil in and then re-do the test?

more likely to be valve problem or piston ring to me.

another quick test for gasket is if you spray ether around the gasket area and listen the idle rev. if nothing happen then the gasket should be fine, if rev. rise then gasket is blown

EDIT: have a look at the symptoms i got www.206info.co.uk/Foru...23042.html , does it sound the same?

Fault sounds very similar... but its still not right, and that doesn't explain the low compression...

I have been thinking maybe the cam-belt as skipped a tooth and knocked the timing right out? The cam-belt needs changing.
