Put 12quids worth of unleaded in my car then realised what an idiot I am.. I put 50 quids of worth diesel straight in and it seems to be fine for the journey home of about 10 mile. but read up on another forum that everyone who makes this mistake should get the tank drained.... Any help would be great??

Keep topping up with Diesel... but you've got lucky imo. I bet someone is going to say different in a minute.

Best idea is to get it drained ASAP and don't drive it very far at all!!

petrol going through the pump will damage it and the injectors dont like either. diesel acts as a lubricant aswell keeping the bearings etc cool, petrol doesn't have the same effect Smile

Best advise would be to get it drained as it can damage the injectos and fuel pump.

I would leave it to be honest but i am a tight wodge Razz My mum has put petrol in my dads car before and he did the same. It ran a bit rough but it was fine. He is good mechanic/engineer as well. Wouldn't have thought such a small amount would do any harm

any damaged will of most probably already accrued as diesel floats on petrol, so the petrol should of been used first.

I once totally filled my old diesel 206 up with petrol, drove it about 20miles before it clonked out on a single bit of road on one way system. I called AA who wouldnt come, but said did you put petrol in it??? "DOH!!!!!!!!!!!"

Anyways had to get it towed and totally drained etc no damage was done. However.

In my old mondeo I stuck a fiver in it, which would be about £10 worth in todays money, and realised and filled it with diesel and it was fine.

They do say it damages the seals in the diesel pump though. Doubt that much would though.

seen a few peeps do this regularly at my local tescos.
ive always been told never to start the motor and call recovery out... even if you are blocking the pumps.

just got a deisel myself after 15 years of driving petrol driven, so im being extra careful.

my dad had this with a brand new 307 HDI lol DOH! there was about 25% petrol in the tank. he kept using it and topping it up with diesel to dilute it as much as possible. the car ran a bit rough but once all the petrol had gone through it was fine again, 180,000 miles later and it was still going strong with no fuel or injector problems,

just letting you know that you could run it through if you wanted Smile seeing as how you have already driven it, its already in the pump etc so it probably wont cause any harm then whats already been caused if you get me

it will be fine lol

Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

Any work you undertake as a result of my posts is done so at your own risk Smile

I didn't think petrol nozzles fitted in diesels, or is that just newer cars?

When i bought my hdi i put £10 worth of petrol in too, so i brimmed her with diesel and kept the tank full for a week, then let it run until it was running on fumes and then put another full tank in and its fine!
