works other way round, diesel one doesnt fit in the petrol cars
can i just say how dumb too?? ive gone from having only petrols to getting a diesels and i never have this problem!

i thought tht was the case aswell bt i guess it cant be. I would have thought it would be fine to be honrst mate. You already drove it so what ever the petrol will do to the engine it has already done

noooooooooo  
do not drive it at all! get it recovered to a garage and have the tank drained refilled completely with diesel and a bottle of fuel treatment
people are probably gonna say just drive it or i did it to mine and filled it up with diisel and it was ok but you will damage the fuel system maybe not now but you will shorten the life span considerably if run on petrol

I had a works van while i had the petrols and not once got them mixed up!!
Its not hard, just really dumb!

how will fuel treatment help? got any proof it shortens the life span of an engine lol?

there's always one smart a**e that wants to argue with sound advise!
i am a fully trained mechanic and see this time and time again i dont need to show you "proof" that it shortens the span of an engine because its common sense that running a vehicle that is designed for diesel on petrol will damage it. agreeably it was a very small amount and will proabably be ok and yes it may last for thousands of miles and be fine but when if it wrecks the injectors and/or fuel pump and you have a huge bill was it really worth it?
the fuel treatment will just help clean the system not a neccisity but a good idea

yes i agree its a small amount and will probably be ok but if you saw some of the bills i see for modern diesel fuel components i wouldnt be taking the risk for the sake of draining it out

yeah they do on most cars, thats why its always petrol in diesel and not diesel in petrol

I've got a diesel and a petrol car and drive them both fairly regularly and i've never once managed to confuse the two.

As diesel does more damage to a petrol they obv decided on doing it this way.
Not sure why they didnt make Diesel a Triangle nozzle and triangle on car.
Petrol round/normal.
Even a 2year old knows circle doesnt fit in a triangle lol. *obviously they have to be the correct sizes before some smart a**e links a picture of a circle inside a triangle HA*

Ford & BMW have already solved the misfueling problem on there new diesel cars.
Ford has the Easy fuel system
BMW has the Incorrect Fuelling Protection System
Basically both systems stop the smaller unleaded petrol pump nozzle being able to put fuel in the tank.
