as above will the 180 engine go on against a gti gearbox? also are the driveshafts the same thickness?

the 180 isnt six speed only 5 i think the box is similar but the ratios and the gear linkages are different has cable gearlinkages on the 180

so what exactly is the point if a '180' it has variable valve timing...... is that it? pointless car! why would you want a 180 gearbox anyway?

you could spend a fortune getting an extra 50bhp from a 138 engine but you can buy a 180 engine for £450 my plan is a 180 engine into a gti shell its WIP though

well a decent cam for a 138 is £400 quid just seems the right thing to do

What does it having VVT got to do with gearboxes?

You cant install lower travers without changing gear selection system. GTI selection bars hiting gti180 exhaust manifold. So you can use your gearbox but you have to change selection system bar to cable.

there's a loooot more to the 180 than just the vvt i drove both when i bought mine years ago and there's no comparison.
im sure this will open the usual whinge that there's not much difference but iv never heard anyone with a 180 wish they had just bought a 138
i assume they need a gearbox and cant find one but have found a 180 one cheap
