Hi all the car is back up to its old tricks
Basically my radiator fan is not kicking it but also i have a strange water pessure problem
problem 1
if you start the car and leave it to tick over tempature wil go up until the warning pops up and no fan at all
What is the best way to test the fan?
Problem 2
if you take the radiator filler cap off and let the car tick over the water level will rise and start pouring out of the filler bottle and continue to come out until it is empty
I am thinking this could be a possible sticky thermostat issue would i be correct in thinking this
before anyone asks there are no air locks in my cooling system
All other ideas welcome i have my mot in 1month time

Does the car missfire when you first turn it on?
Sounds to me like your headgasket could be gone between the coolant part and the piston. For it to build up preasure in the system thats the only thing I can think of to cause preasure
Overheating and fan not kicking in also sounds like the thermostat isnt opening. Which could have been the cause of the HG going.
To test the fan I would just put 12v through it and if it works then you know the problem is further back
HTH

Ok then, take the thermostat housing off and chuck the thermostat into a bowl of boiling water and see if it opens up. Or you could do what I think has been done to mine and just leave the thermostat out

To test the fan, bridge a 12v supply to it and see what happens. It could also be the fan switch in the rad. Again unplug the connector from this and use a paperclip to bridge the 2 connections and if the fan kick in then its ok.If not its the fan switch that needs replacing.

hey up got an update
I have checked the thermostat and it opens and closes fine i ahve tried running the car with out and the back pressure is gone so i put it back in and fringers crossed
but my fan still will not work i have just check the relays and i found the lower one a light brown cable has snapped off so i have rewired that but the relay looks in bad shape
Where would be the best place to buy two new relays

Has one of the fan relay wires not corroded to a green dust? Thats a huge issue with most 206's. Just cut the wire a few inches down and refurbish it with some new decent wire. connecting it with new spades rather than using the original connector.
I know Lodgey (IIRC) did this a few months ago, I also need to do that on mine.

If the water escapes from the bottle when the temperature is just under 90 degrees that is because the water starts to boil

Yes it did go to a green dust so i cut the wire down and re wired it all but still with no luck

Update
I have solved the problem with my fan not working and my strange radiator leak and also the back pressure problem
Fan not working: i change both relays that are just left of the fan
Radiator leak: had to rad pressure tested there where no leaks so i change the lower radiator hose end piece gasket.
Back pressure problem: this has ben solved by me fixing the leak the water was boiling over due to lack of presssure when hot
