What people need to realise is that although a cambelt box will say Peugeot on it, the belt inside will say Gates on it. The aftermarket part will say Gates on it too. They are the same part. Just because it doesn't come from the Peugeot dealer doesn't mean it's a different part.

The same OE suppliers also manufacture the parts for the aftermarket. As long as you stick with the big brands and don't go for the cheapest parts you'll be getting identical parts or parts of the same quality.

Hehe i disagree with you there yes gates make the gti 180 cambelt kit and lots of other companies make parts for the dealers but one thing i learnt in my time working on cars is that the genuine one's have alot better stuff in them than the after market ones.

So meny times i seen people surply there own stuff and say these who make the genuine one and then 6 mouths later the part knockerd then they fit a genuine (same make) but for some stange reason it last 3x longer and seem to fit alot easyer.

Sorry i will allways ALLWAYS say genuine is better.

But not always. Use your judgement and buy decent brands and they will be fine.

Sorry to hijack, I've been quoted £370 for parts and labour (inc water pump) - seems a little steep but I know it's a b***h to change on the 180.
