Does it shoot up randomly?
Mine does that!
I've changed the sensor and it still does it (very occasionally now though, I must admit).

Is this the temp guage that appears on the dash? Mine has been at 42degrees C for a while now so i'm guessing it's naff. How do you go about repacing it? Is it located in the wing mirror?

Passenger wing mirror, unclip / remove the mirror glass.
Sensor is clipped in, you really need a soldering iron & heat shrink to attach the 2 wires of the replacement sensor.
