Hi I wonder if anyone can HELP. My 206 1.4 GLX (03) failed its MOT this morning because the headlights and sidelights came on at the same time when the sidelights were selected on. Also when the rotary switch is in the "sidelight" position the indicators will only flash twice each side then stop.

Ive tried a BSI reset (twice), checked the BSI connections, all the fuses and earths to the lights and even changed all the front bulbs, but the fault is still there.

I suspect the BSI has a fault (expensive) but can I just fit a new/secondhand one or does it need to be coded to the car/keys??

Hoping for an answer or suggestions

Thanks, Kev

If you suspect a faulty bsi, get it scanned and perform some actuator tests to see if the indicators work normally.

I'd say it needs a new COM2000

Thanks Lee, the indicators work fine except when the sidelights are turned on.

What are these actuator tests and COM2000 your on about?

Your COM is the multifunction switch assembly that makes up the indicator stalk, lights and wiper stalk. It communicates with the BSI and are pretty prone to failing.

When you scan for faults on a car, you can preform actuator tests so you can turn the indicators and stuff on using software so you can rule out things like a fault BSI, because if they are functioning correctly then the switch is generally at fault.

I'd be tempted to get a new COM

Thanks very much for the information Lee, very helpful. I'm going to an auto lecky on Monday for some diagnostic work, I'll let them know what you've said, although if they're any good they should know.

I'll also let you know what gets replaced

Thanks again,

Kev

Waste of time unless they have Peugeot Planet diagnostic kit Wink

03 plate car, it's 99.9% gonna need a new Com2000 unit Wink

I very much doubt it's the BSI.

It might also be an idea to get the BSI software updated by a Peugeot main dealer, 2003 software is very buggy Laughing

So would you recommend going direct to Peugeot main dealer then to get car sorted, the auto lecky I was going to (Auto electrix, Swindon) says they have factory diagnostic kit and spares on the shelf.

They probably will have Multi Di@g, i would have thought, which should be able to do actuator tests and a lot of the same stuff Peugeot Planet does.

I'd come do it for you, but think it might cost you too much travelling from Sheffield Laughing

Will find out tomorrow hopefully what the fault is. Thanks for the offer Lee but Sheffield is a fair way away, I think fixing car is gonna be expensive enough as it is !!!

Thanks for all the advice

Wait, 300 quid?! Does it just be need to be fitted? if so you can get one for a fraction of the price and fit yourself.

The £300 is for the diagnostic work, the COM2000, labour and VAT. I didnt really fancy messing with the air-bag. Better to be done properly with a warranty than mess it up and end up spending more money I dont have..
