My mates got a 2001 s class, if you want quiet and spacious get one of them!! Its weird how quietly it picks up a lot of speed(has a 5.0 V8!) really comfy as well!!
Me, I don't worry about noise.

Went and drove an Audi A6 2.0 S Line and a Focus 2.0 TDCI S yesterday.
The Focus was suprisingly nice to drive, felt bigger than it was, and was surprisingly quiet. 65mph came without any noise to speak of. The wife always comments how nice it is to do 70 in a car and not know it, unlike the 206 which sounds like it's doing 100 at 60! In the front it seemed quieter than the Mondeo :s In the back was quite a lot of road noise but thats easily fixed from the boot. However, it's pretty plasticy, and hard plastics too all over the door cards etc. And for a 2.0 TDi, sloow.
Tha A6 was just a different league unsurprisingly. Lovely and quiet, with a 7! speed semi auto gearbox, and sequential paddle shift! Me like a lot! Not so keen on the VAG styling in the middle of the dash. IMO every VAG car dashboard looks so dated you could be sat in a car from 15 years ago an not know. Always red, hint of blue light and plain square plastic styling and buttons everywhere. However only the one section in the middle where the AC controls are was like that. Also felt suprisingly swift, and quicker then the Focus considering it's extra weight and same 140Hp. Very tempting. But it's a BIG car, and doesn't have parking sensors as standard, and well, i'm pretty sure the wife will prang it pretty quickly :/
As you may have guessed VAG cars are generally out for me. Liked the Leon FR, sat inside, fell asleep from sheer boredom and got out.. Nope. So dissapointing.
The Passat CC looks nice, but is probably the same dull VAG inside and most importantly out of price range I think.
Still to drive a Civic but TBH, after the A6, we may be wasting our time. The inside is not the far off feeling like the Mondeo though in some respects, so we'll see.
So far the Mondeo or Audi seem most likely though the noise in the Mondeo is concerning me, and the running cost of the Audi will no doubt be pricy. Boot is also a bit awkward in the Audi.

Golf GT TSI 160 (twincharger)
As fast as a 180, as economical as a diesel, and is a VW.
When I took it to RSTuning to go on the dyno the bloke who drove it asked if it was electric.
That's quiet.
For a totally quiet ride avoid the 18" alloy wheel option (assuming you have £21k to spare) |

Decision was made. Mondeo Titanium X Sport 2.2 175...
It's sure a lot nicer to drive than the pug, but at the same time I miss the immediacy of the pug.. Just cruise around in the Mondy, it's so much more refined and quieter (the engine and exhaust drone, not road noise). Petty the stereo sucks even though it has the £1800 sat nav option! Waste of money IMO, but it was fitted so.
Still not sure it's the right decision, Audi was quiter, had better stereo, and possibly better economy. Can't get the MPG anything like the quoted on the mondeo.. Average 43-44MPG driving like it was worth a billion pounds and made of crystal!

It was alright from what i remember.
Very comfy, I drove the average 1.8 model that left me a bit underwhelmed on the performance.
Standard kit was nice and I just couldn't fault the driving position.
Maybe check out a type S if comfort is more your thing?
Edit: Comfort WITH power

Depends how old it is, newer Fords are a lot less prone to rusting. My girlfriend has a Fiesta ST and there's no signs of rusting yet

There are plenty of MK1 Focus RS's out there with corrosion behind the bumpers. They should not be rusty at such an age.
