Hi guys just wondering if anyone can help.
I have had my v reg pug for only 4 months . I am the third owner.
It has done about 88000 miles.
In the beginning the engine would cut out when the car was idle. All the lights would come on including the engine management light. There would be no power and the steering wheel locks. I would turn the ignition off and start the car again and off i go. For a month it was all good.
Should have got it checked out but didnt. Embarassed
The clutch went , so got a new one £300 Then the engine started to cut out whilst car was mobile Shocked

*So had a crank sensor put in problem still persisted
*So had starter motor as car failed to start at all (recommended by rac)
*New spark plugs fitted , engine still cutting out and would not start.
Towed to peugeot dealer got earth cable replaced and fitted.
*Also got new fuel pump put in today £200 !!!
Guess what engine cut out again going on a roundabout. Didnt take long to restart the car but still not good.
This is costing me a fortune not to mention pretty scary stuff.
Would really welcome any ideas you may have or if you can drect me to a thread /post similar to this . Cheers

scrap it.

pretty sure you got the famous cut out problem there...

or if you still want to fix it.

coilpack? throttle body?

ecu would probably be the last resort

aaarrgghh scrap it ?? gosh that would be my last resort which i am steadily reaching. Only had the car 4 months and am so gutted.
I was thinking about the coil pack , i heard pugeout brought out a newer version its grey ? would this make a difference i wonder. Both rac guys said it was fine.
I dont know much about the throttle body , is it likely to cost much to sort out ?
Thanks for rreplying so quick.

no idea about the colour but make sure you got the bosch one, someone could confirm that.

so for the engine cut out, does it only happen when idle or it can happen at any time?

It used to cut out when the car was idle , then when it was mobile and today it happened whist going around a little bend first before waiting for a barrier to go up, so the car was idle then. Im guessing it will happen anytime now.

Ok brilliant , thankyou . I did have that down as one of the numerous possibilities of why this car is giving me problems. Any ideas how much it costs and how long it would take to have done ?
Also i wonder if the compression rate might be a factor? I read that somewhere.
Can i pick your brain about something else too , when i go up a hill it feels like the car is dragging like there is not enough power ??
I dont know much about cars except what i have learnt off various discussions on peugeot problems.

Bad times eh ! What colour is the coil pack? And what year/reg is it.
One thing seems to follow another with peugeots before 2003 .

The first one sounds like the idle control valve and is very common. it needs removing and cleaning. It's very easy and im sure there's a guide here somewhere.

The second one could be the 'cut out problem'. Not too sure how it stands with this nowadays but think it has something to do with an early coil pack playing up and damaging the ecu.

If it's a square coil pack it's the early one. If it's got rounded edges with a sort of plasticky filling in the back then its the updated one.

Presuming your engine looks like this, Look at the big black thing at the back of the engine nearest the windscreen (throttle body) See that black bit stuck to the back of it near where the big pipe to the right joins the throttle body? That's the idle control valve.

It looks like that. Unbolt it, get a rag, wipe it off, wipe the hole it came out of off as best you can and then put it back and it should stop stalling. Do that before replacing the coil pack. the coil pack is that thing in front of the throttle body with the grey plug (make a note of the colour of your plug as the motor factor might ask you what colour it is - grey or black)

2 screws either side. undo those. disconnect the plug and lift it out. Labour saved right there. Do the opposite to refit it

wowsers !!!!! Thankyou thankyou pug206. I am going to stare at this some more in the morning.
Im sure the rac guy said the coil pack itself was fine. But i think the plug might be an issue? grey is new and black is old ?? I read that somewhere. Cheers Pug!!
