Well when i reversed off the drive i used to get a clunk noise coming from the rear of the car and i was told it could be the bearings and it was cheaper to replace the axle
sooooo i bought a rear axle, haven't fitted it but the car has stopped doing the clunking noise........
If my bearing(s) had gone would this happen? Why has the noise now gone? I'm now unsure if i should replace the axle or sell it on?

I've got a clunking noise on my XSi and I've had the bearing checked on the passenger side as thats where the noise is coming from and everything else and there's nothing their that could be causing a problems. I don't understand as my cars only 20k miles :S
But mine goes once I get over 30mph.

I didn't think wheel bearing were that expensive anyway :\ surely they're cheaper than a new axle?!
I'm sure a front one was only £25 ish!

Mine use to clunk until a friend driving behind me said my wheel was wobbling! Got it up on a ramp and there was a lot of play on the drivers side rear wheel, had to get a new tracking arm and bush I think (mechanic done it all but has bad English) £250 later and it feels like a different car!
I'm just lucky that my friend saw it, get it up on a ramp and get it checked just incase!
