I just had cambelt and water pump done on 180 at local garage today.

I got it back, but the exhaust sounds louder, and the car seems a bit slower.

he said the pins lined up in the cams etc??

do you know what they could have done wrong? :/

help!

Probably not used the incorrect locking tools and its been timed badly.

EDIT: or maybe the exhaust could have become loose when they had the engine off the mount, might be worth going round the exhaust joins and tightening them up.

That doesnt sound too good.

Having just done the belt on my 180 rally car I realise how important it is to time the belt correctly.

Is it when you rev the car or all the time?

They may well have locked the cams correcly however If they didnt use the correct crankshaft locking tool then perhaps the belt is a tooth out and when you accelerate the valves are touching.

It could just be something minimal like the exhaust loose however I would check with them and make sure the locked the floating crankshaft with the correct tool.
Ask them how the locked it!

There is a tool looks like a cone with a point out of the end. It gets inserted into the block at the back of the engine above the driveshaft and locates the flywheel. Any other way of locking it will risk the wrong timing if the crank moves.

It takes a long time to do it. I recon flat out working on it 4-5 hours. Think its about £400-500 to get it done. No not all Pug garages will. I know for a fact my local one doesnt have the tool and just hope 180's dont come in.

you will have to do the timing probably.

the tools is just to "lock" the timing (provide the timing before is good)

did mine at 56k, looks like had one before too . better of doing now for a couple of hundred quid rather than the 1100 just quoted to a customer for a 1.4 scenic due to belt snapped. all 16 valves bent plus 8 valve guides cracked .
