How?

There isnt any front end damage so the drivers airbag would have been sod all use.

Well I nutted the steering wheel, got a lovely circular shaped bruise on my forehead to prove it Embarassed

You need a heavy front impact to fire the seatbelt pretensioners & drivers / passenger airbags Wink

Seatbelts in use at time should be replaced, the material stretches Wink

Wow! Just be thankful your ok, see if there are any cameras around and let the police know about this nutter!
Police should have attended the scene as not only was it a hit and run, but also an injury RTC.
You need to report it within 24 hours, otherwise you face the risk of being prosecuted for failing to report. The other driver may have reported it already. Best be safe rather than sorry.

At least there isn't as much body damage as if he had hit you full on. Looks like the majority of damage has occured by the wheel coming off.

It was reported the day after, They slapped on a 'police aware' sticker, far as they were concerned it was out of the way and not causing further damage. Claiming on insurance is out of the question as im a young driver and couldn't offord to loose my no claims! Nevermind the excess being £350.

They do that so they dont get loads of phone calls from members of the public telling them the car is there.

I'm surprised they left it there that long. Lucky no one had reported it parked up overnight as they may have recovered it for you, and sent you the bill.
I would have been straight onto the recovery and having it taken back to a garage. Don't like leaving my car stranded in middle of no where overnight. Left it for a few hours once and came back to no windows.

My RAC breakdown cover will recover a car after an accident, the insurance company gets the bill for recovery.

Years ago I had to pay for recovery, had to claim it back from the insurance company.

If you request the recovery, no reason the insurance wouldn't pay (mine send their own garage out to recover)
If the police see an abandoned vehicle, or feel that the vehicle is causing an obstruction, then they get their own rota garage out and then let the garage send the RK a bill to pass to the insurance.
Looking at the photos, I would have said that the road had a speed limit in excess of 40mph so any vehicle parked up during the lighting up period would need to display parking lights. Otherwise it would be classed a danger to other road users and recovered. To get the car back after that, most recovery companies would expect the bill to be settled prior to releasing the vehicle.

It was there for about 12 hours, since it was in the middle of no-where there wasn't much risk of it being bashed in, i'm insured with the AA so I dodged out of a hefty tow bill, the next part is waiting for the garage bill Crying or Very sad
