206 1.4 hdi 2003. oil fine. knocking or tapping loudly on tick over 800 rpm
from cam belt side of engine. at 1000 + rpm the noise goes, the car runs really good. just noisey on tickover. normal fuel consumption. 100,000 miles on clock. any ideas? cam belt change due to be booked in will this help?

Does it sound louder than normal when its idling?
If so... oh dear, mine did this 2 weeks ago and it was the timing belt tensioner had exploded and the bottom pulley had just about gone too
Same car too and same year
Edit: also it was booked in for a timing belt change the following week and was on 106k

the noise sounds like its coming from top of engine and goes over 1000 rpm.

mine does the same. been told its a leaky injector. if you listen you can hear it. mine sounds like a steam train but keeps on going. even at 171k miles.. dont worry but if you fix it let us know. think iv read the injectors are very hard to remove so iv not even considered trying to fix it yet
