youd be suprised how quickly they go replaced mine at start of jan, and it had gone by start of april, proper pug bits would be better though so by pug if your doing it, if you get under the car and have alook at it you can tell weather is gone as it wont be sitting correct and there will be some wear marks on it

had a similar noise recently, mainly on idle.
after replacing the crank pulley, belt and aux tensioner, it turned out to be my alternator pulley or internal bearing on it causing the noise.
i just got a new uprated alternator (with a clutch pulley instead of fixed pulley) and it went away.

ok thanks for repies , i heard they go quickly too ive had mine done twice but do loadsa milliage , it did the trick last time noise went , also what damage can it do ?
il get my mechanic to do it asap for peace of mind .
Its the common fault with the 2.0 Hdi heard it too many times just wasnt sure how long they meana last and
i had the better more expensive newer pulley because there's a few older cheaper one not meant to last for as long.
No havent checked other pulleys yet just thought it probably be bottom pulley .

Remember:
Buy a NEW GENUINE part from your Peugeot / Citroen main dealer, the pulley has been modified
Fit the modified pulley & it should be fine for the rest of the life of the car.

Bought it thru the local motor factors, paid about £60. Had the original and then the Eibach one. My car is about the same age as yours

if you get the measurment of the pulley you can have even more choices, light weight alloy one do looks good.

hi guys i know that this is a page for a 2.0ltr however i have just purchased a 1.4hdi 2005 plate 206 car derived van and there is a loud ticking sound coming form the engine which appears and disappers at regular intervals reading your posts i presume it is the crank shaft pulley and if so is it a difficult job to do and or expensive thanks for your replies
