So to clear things up, if there is no gas in the system the air con will not activate.
Indeed when the refrigerant reaches a certain temperature the fan kicks in blowing air through the evaporator, the refrigerant absorbs the heat, and cool air is blown into the car

The pressure safety switch wont allow the compressor to engage when there is insufficient gas pressure in the system.
