Nope, the red additional must be connected as shown in the picture and it must be red/yed and yellow/yellow for stereo to only sometimes come on and not holding its memory.

I think the best option is to just check all the power leads with a circuit tester. See where there's power with the igniton on and off. I'm guessing a previous owner was the one that's bridged them all? That's what I can't get my head around - it sounds like there's a power wire down so it's been bridged from another circuit.

I think £30 for new wiring/new fuse etc was quite decent considering stores such as halfords and others are charging £25 just for headunit wiring. Not looking to spend anymore into this, called them up (where I spent £30) and told them the memory is not holding when battery is turned off and they said "sorry we don't do this".
1) Turn on engine - unit works.
2) Turn on battery, wait 1 second, turn on engine - unit don't work.
3) Turn off engine to battery - unit don't work.
4) Turn on battery - unit works
5) Turn on battery, off and on again - unit don't work
This is seriously over frustrating.
Anyway.. this is what they did in the bonnet:
imageshack.us/m/220/97...011466.jpg
don't know if this has got to do with anything contributing to the ghost stereo.
turns on/off when it wants to, not when I want it to.

Might be worth getting one of these to start with
cgi.ebay.co.uk/JVC-ISO...2310ca43c9
As for the 'terminal' on the battery I'd say your wiring is pretty doomed! Just hope I don't find any more surprises like that!

Hmm the car unlocks itself after random periods of 5-10 minutes... locked the car, secured the key, return.. doors unlocked?!
Don't think I'll be touching the car anymore... obviously need mechanics to sort this b-s*** out! Kept in garage for now.
Thanks all for help anyway!

As Devman said, get hold of a new 16pin ISO and get someone experienced to re-wire it from scratch. With wiring like that, disconnect the battery before you start fiddling around with anything. Connecting the amp to a power source should be the last thing you do. You can see where I live on my profile, if you live anywhere near there I'd be more than happy to take a proper look at it for you. Good luck.

This is it...

I am not buying a new one, why?! It looks exackly the same... nothing looks damaged either. Now this is the way it was connected the first time. For the additional red connector, it has some black thing.. this I don't have anymore. Is it just tape and is it needed?

Well you don't NEED to buy a new one, just connect and tape it all up back to how it should be.
You should not need to bridge a connection on an iso (using that white plastic thing in the middle), most likely done when a power wire was not working . This is most likely caused by a blown fuse, or even a blown wire (if too high amp fuse used).
Remove the bridged connection, use a circuit tester and test all the power wires.
If they all read voltage (12) then you're sorted to connect it up correctly. Red to red, yellow to yellow, black amp wire to blue and white remote feed.
I also recommend that you invest in a battery clamp for your amp.

Ok, I found out the solution to all the problems I am having with the wierd wiring nightmare.
The reason the fuses kept blowing is because of this:
imageshack.us/m/220/97...011466.jpg
I took it to the garage and they said the power connector from the amp should not be connected to the fuse as you can see in the image, but to the battery itself at positive. I tried doing this but I saw a lightning flash and smoke, yes battery was off.
Please someone tell me where I connect the red wire too.. and it's all good after this! ![Very Happy Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif)
Thanks.

You connect it to the positive terminal on your battery, using a battery clamp.
Your battery shouldn't spark at you if it is completely disconnected, and you connect to one terminal.
