It is a 2004 GTI 180 that has done just over 47000 miles.

I phoned around for quotes and this place seemed the cheapest, one garage wanted £600 for the cambelt alone! Unfortunately this is something that I wouldn't dare change myself. Crikey, is there is a list of recommended garages on this website.

I had an Alfa Romeo GTV 3.0 v6 prior to this and the cost on my peugeot are almost as much as the alfa! I also read a review on the internet that there are other common problems on a Peugeot such as headgasket failure and CV joints splitting...now getting worried.

No, it didnt blow up although had loads of problems that i had to fix...!! I think i easily spent over £8000 in maintenance on it - I think i should perhaps give up with cars and go to a push bike!!! Smile

Yeah it was super quick but i love my Peugeot just as much!

The going rate for a 180 cambelt at a dealer with water pump is around the £400 mark.

My cam-belt on my 180 went at the start of the year. My recomendation is get it changed ASAP you could be looking at the 400-500 mark for a garage to do it as its a difficult job. My belt went completely at 59000 it was caused by the water pump seizing and making the cam belt slip teeth on the cam shaft and then the pistons battered the hell out of 10 or so valves! The head needed rebuilding by a specialist and the end bill for pretty much a refurbished head was just shy of a grand!

I've not known many people have the water pump go but it's always advisable to have it done at the same time as the cambelt just in case you need to do the whole lot again.
