is it worth having engine rebuilt? how much we looking at? the engine was knocking from bottom end, overheating with bit of mayo starting, and oil smelt of fuel, not sure how far its been overheated by too. (tho i have found out since thermostat was a fault)
if not it will be a scrapyard engine going back in, but no guarantee on that will be much good.
anyone know of any decent places in the midlands?
thanks ben.

it all depends if you are gonna do the rebulid or what your car is worth and how much you want to spend really it is very easy to spend a grand

the amount £250 is the amount i can get a new engine for BUT who know what it will be like after the 30days warrenty they offer,
im intrested in how much engine rebuliders charge to rebuild engines or if it is worth it and or just take a risk with a 2nd hand one. or even of people have had it done before.

Decent breakers only remove engine from low millage cars, can can usually be better then most, found in secound hand cars.
ASk if you are able to have an exteded warrenty if they are sure its a good engine there should beno problem in them doing this or ask if you can pay for an extended warrenty.
i have done this a few times and never had any problems.

if the bottom end was knocking id bin it and buy a decent 2nd hand one
maybe a vtr one (arnt some of them plug and play but a smidge more power than the xs one?
do the headgasket, cambelt, other small gaskets while out for the sake of a small outlay now will save any hassle in the future
