Wondering whats best powdercoating or spraying as i have no idea of the difference im asking with the intention of having my 180 wheels turned black in one way or the other. I have black 206 and want it to match so am i best of spraying as powdercoating always seems a bit matte

its not a contest powder coating is far superior, its much thicker and hard wearing especially on alloys, my alloys are sprayed with cans i used plenty of lacquer and i am careful not to kerb them but after time the paint will need a recoat whereas powdercoating you should never need to do it again unless you are always ripping the paint up.

how much do you have? how long are you looking to keep the car?? are you a good parker and do you clean your car regular???
paint is the cheaper option but needs more work in the long run to look nice.
powder coating is expensive (not ott) and is easier to live with.
ill always paint my wheels unless like my bbs wheels for my mk1 golf ill powder coat them as i want them to last a while lol

Thanks for everyones input, think im getting somewhere now. Want to keep the car for a long while yet and does sometimes get neglected so powdercoating seems like the right choice but a lot of powdercoating ive seen on mates cars seems to have a very matte finish. Can powdercoating offer a gloss finish at all? and what sort of price would a full re-furb and (gloss) black powdercoating for vortexs set me back. And what members have vortexs powdercoated with a black car aswell. be nice to see how it looks
cheers

You can get a multitude of finishes with powercoating.
Your best bet is to go and talk to a powdercoating specialist in your area and they will be able to answer all your questions.

well near me its 30 a wheel if its primed, 60 if they need work and prepping so you looking at 200 at least with tin cans 40 diy or 40 for paint then pay someone to do it, leave it to someone who knows because i have a few friends who have done diy refurbs and their attempts suck more then an geordie bird,
these are my diy refurbed wheels

Black just makes wheels look very small. It also loses any definition of the shape.

It's a fact. It also draws attention to dirty, corroded brakes behind them. What's behind the wheels is lighter in colour and therefore stands out more.
