I paid £112 for a coilpack for my 2.0. And that was at a main dealer. I got a pattern ICV for around 60quid so if you pay anything less than that for half decent bits, you should be happy.

If you have a potentially dodgy coilpack it could have done in your new plugs, then if you have dodgy plugs it could do in your new coilpack starting the whole cycle again.
If you are going to the expense of getting a coil, I would recomend another new set of super 4's, for the sake of 20quid you'll then know everything is 100% right. Even if you still have one or two errors come up at least you won't be second guessing changes you've already done.

**edit**

I have a coilpack and ICV (map sensor too) for sale. Second hand, 8 years old with less than 50k on them. Cheap cheap and were changed while trying to track down my tappet problem. Surfice to say changing these for new ones did not fix my tappets lol Razz

The coil pack is the orginal pug one fitted from factory. As is the ICV and the Boshe MAP.

Like I say they were all removed and replaced to no avail. The only differance I noticed was slightly better pick from cold which I actually put down to the decent super 4's I put in at the same time.

Due to the age of the bits I'll take £45 delivered for the coil pack, ICV and map sensor? I only want that much to cover the £5 + postage on the heavy coil pack. Let me know. I paid just over £200.00 for new replacments so waiting until you have enough to get brand new ones for peice of mind may be a better option if you can afford it.

If you have cold start idle problems feel free to ask me about anything. I did a lot of question asking and replaced a lot of bits so might be able to pass on some of the useful info, or i'll do my best a least.

Not too bad a price at all that.

Ok,

The car was fine when started later in the day even when completely cold. However the first start in the morning as the revs lower from a fast 1200rpm idle to a normal 800rpm idle around 1000rpm the car would feel like it's rocking/juddering and the gear stick would be shaking quite violently. It would disappear when driven away and once warm everything seemed dandy. All the changes I made including coil, plugs etc only seemed to reduce the effects for a while but didn't cure them.

If it's anything like that then it could be your tappets are on their way out.

I would recommend an engine flush, oil change and then adding some Wynn sticky lifter/tappet treatment to the oil. This might halt or reverse the effects if it's early on. I left it to long for that to work for me.

Well at a dealer your looking at £800-900+

Pug tappets are around £26 each and you need 16 (one per valve)
Pattern tappets are a bit cheaper at £20 each but you may be able to find someone who can get them trade you may be able to get genuine pug ones for as little as £17 each.

Then you come to labour, I got quoted 7 hours labour and the guy had it over two days as he he had other work on. Found a site that lists average labour rates and if your lucky you might get it for as little as £40

Thats a bare minimum of £500-£600 although others on here have said expect to pay around £400-£600 as a rule minimum. Thats maybe if you get a good friendly mechanic whos quick which will knock down the hours.

I was ridiculously lucky with mine which is why I managed to get it done.
I spotted someone selling brand new genuine tappets for 17quid on ebay offered him 10quid each and they accepted.
Plus I somehow managed to get my regular mechanic (only does private work for a select few) to do the work for £180 labour and £20 for an oil flush and change.

So £360 all in.

So fingers crossed you'll have some luck should they get worse and you have to take the plunge.

Also try and get gen pug tappets not pattern, and you want the suggested 1.8 tappets which are a slightly revised design which should prevent the problem coming back.

Search my other posts for the part numbers, I'm sure they are about somewhere.
