So my aircon's never worked since i got the car last year, and I can't be bothered to pay to get it fixed when it's only above freezing for one week a year so....

Is it worth stripping it out completely? Or at least removing the pulley and running a non-aircon belt?

Would it genuinely make a difference to acceleration or fuel economy? Or would it be a complete waste of time? Would of thought that it take at least some of the power from the engine to start spinning a pulley, even if there's never any resistance on it?

PS it's a 1.4 8v pre-plexed bog standard engine. Except for a homemade/bodged induction kit...

it will help a minimal amount, but as the aircon is not switched on the pullys putting virtually no load on the engine anyway, so it will be a hell of a lot easier to leave it Smile
Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

I removed mine, made a noticeable difference

Costs plus £40 to do, as you need a new tensioner set up and belt

Thats not including the labour involved
