there is a machine that can fix the cracks and chips in the glass,I'm sure there is such a machine in UK,it use Laser for such a work, which is better than change the glass, and the cost would be less.

Why not give autoglass a call and ask them if they could come and have a look for you, plus normal if you are full comp insurance it's covered.
I think it depends how bad the crack/chip is and where, i know my mum has one on her passenger side which has been there for years and still passes the mot.

Large chips have to be in the section directly in the drivers line of sight abpout the same width as the steering wheel. Anything outside that will pass MOT .. but not large cracks ...
Oh, Mrs H .. tell the mum-in-law to avoid potholes then or she could be shelling out around £70-80 excess for a new screen!! Or avoid the heater directly on the screen in the winter ... that's when mine went!

I have about 3 chips across my screen and 1 in the drivers line of sight, it passed the MOT easily with just 1 advisory and that was for the driver side chip

I think the chip/crack has to be over 10mm in width of the steering wheel to fail.

I wouldnt trust Autoglass, twice I had to use them & both times there fitters where f*****g useless.
They either damage your car OR dont even glue the windscreen in correctly
They also refuse to fit genuine glass & insist on fitting there Guardian crap

I used to detest them.
Phoned them up needing a new windscreen for my 206 GTi.
They quote me something like £750. I say that I've had a quote elsewhere of £550 and in a blink of an eye they drop the price to £650
But they fixed a chip in my windscreen for free & the guy that did it was alright

Not bad seeing as a genuine Peugeot windscreen is £313.10 as a spare part.
