i've read a fair bit of the 'How To's' when it comes to painting.
problem is most of the guides are so brief and he assumes that everyone else's know his in-between steps.
i want to paint some parts of the car. some on plastic some on the metal and some on the calipers and other 'hot' areas.
what type of grits of sandpaper am i looking at? there are like so many different numbers.
what i roughly know (or rather don't know) is that i should
clean up the area i wanna spray.
sand it? (which grit)
a coat of primer, let it dry
sand it again?
do it for about 3 coats of primer?
wait for 24hrs?
colour paint goes on
wait again?
laquer?
what????
then there's wet and dry sand paper? where does that come in?
i know nuts but i like to learn how to do this simple things myself.

Clean up the surface
Sand it, the grit really depends on how bad the surface is
Primer
Wet and dry (2000 grit)
Light dusting with colour of choice and leave to dry, should only take roughly 10 mins to dry with some heat. Repeat until fully covered and are happy with the finish.
Lacquer, for high gloss finish add several coats of it.
I just sprayed my petrol cap black and used 8 layers of lacquer got a real nice finish to it now.
