Hi,
I recently bought a 2003 206 SW and I have some problems with the gear change indicator in the dashboard. The lights in the dashboard stays in P even if I move the gear from Park to Drive, Neutral or Reverse. The light is always at P in the dashboard. The sports mode and snow mode in the auto trans does not work too as the indicator in the dashboard does not light up every time I press the buttons. The cigarette lighter does not work too. However, the problem with the electricals does not affect the car's driving performance. The car still drives well.
Any thoughts on what the problem might be? Is it safe to bring the car to a local car electrician or should I bring the car to the dealer? I'm afraid that the local car electrician might mess things up because Peugeot electricals is a bit complicated. Please help.

It might be best to ask the dealer to have a look and tell you what's wrong, I always get Kwickfit to have a look and then get a friend to fix mine.

You may lol at Kwickfit but they have never been wrong about the problems and what needs to be done, my friend that's a mechanic told me I needed a whole new rear axle as I had a lot of play in my drivers side wheel. I took it to Kwickfit to have a look and they told me it was a tracking arm (something like that anyway  ) so instead of paying for a new axel I got the bits replaced by my friend and just paid for the parts.

They fitted £600 of new parts to my brothers Jag without his permission, then when he took it to my mate all it needed was about £50 of work needed in the first place.
He went back and demanded his money back and when they refused he took his old parts back, my mate refitted them to the car and he sent alll the new parts to their head office and they sent him back £700.
Also, when I wanted the Janspeed for the 180 I asked two local Kwit Fits (who were listed suppliers) and both said that a 206GTi180 "doesn't exist mate, they only did the GTi". Errrr, I have one sitting outside??
They're a bunch of idiots who don't have a clue.

Your 206 is multiplexed which means it uses a digital CAN VAN electrical system.
Peugeot Planet is the diagnostic software a main dealer would use on it, some independent French car specialists may have it but in your part of the world I couldn't say.
It might be worth checking the fuses BUT dont pull fuses out with the battery connected!
BSI unit needs shutting down / booting up correctly, you cant just disconnect / reconnect the battery on a multiplexed Peugeot, you need to follow the correct procedure to avoid open wallet sugary

Sounds like you had very bad experiences of Kwickfit then Ali! I've never got them to do any work though as there a rip off.
To the OP a French car specialist would be your best bet like what mr bsi said
