i was flicking through the trip today on my car, lookingf through mpg etc and then all of a sudden it wouldnt flick through any more...
i press the button on the end of the stalk and nothing happens...
will it be the stalk or the display?

It will be the button on the stalk
You can take them apart if your gentle.

I now have this same problem. Can just the stalk be replaced? Or is it simple enough to take apart and fix?

You can take them to bits. You can't replace the stalk, needs to replace the whole COM

I have the same problem, is there a how to on how to take the indicator stalk aprt, and more importantly how to fix and refit the stalk?

Its not on the indicator stalk 
The trip button is on the wiper stalk.
Just pop the cap off and clean the button inside

i have cleaned inside the stalk and the trip computer still does not work is there anything else i can check

Sorry for the year old thread revival, but my car also seems to have developed this problem today and it doesn't look like this guys issue was resolved either
