Got a cheap 206 gti the other day because it's got no drive...

Quick test has following results...

1) car selects ever gear
2) go to let clutch out... And nothing.

Just like there's no plate I'n the bloody thing.

Checked cv's .... No play or movement..

Put Into 1st gear and jacked drivers side wheel up.

Turned wheel by hand :s ??.... This should be locked I'n gear!

Someone turned wheel by hand for me.. While I investigated all cv joints... All seems fine.

Perhaps she has shattered the diff?...

Any thoughts out there?

Sound like the diff has shat itself, if you are going to strip it do you can get the diff out quite easy withthe box out. why you are there replace the clutch if you are keeping it

Any clunking or knocking when you let the clutch out with it in gear? When the diff goes they normally let you know with the noise

Excellent work. Thanks.

I've started taking it to pieces this afternoon...

Well... Popped gear linkages off, moved wires out of way, taken the clutch pipe off and moved out the way..

Then wd40 every nut and bolt that I might encounter so they soak overnight...

So hopefully At somepoint tomorrow I can bar the bottom arm out, crack the bell housing bolts, drop the g/oil, yank the cv out, and pull drop the thing out ?...

One slight concern.... That starter motor looks like a right ball ache to get out... Can it come out still on the box? Surely I don't have to take That plastic monstrosity of injection s**te off?...

there's a 306 hdi be4 box at the local scrappy.. That I think I'll have... Can't be that different...

Cheers

T

You won't need WD40 for a start. I've stripped loads of these and they are always easy to get to bits.

Starter isn't to hard tbh. Once you are underneath it's easy enough to get to. You'll need to remove the battery and tray to get to the mount, and then you can lift out the airbox and get access that way too.

Don't be too confident that any BE4 box will be the same. There are lots of variations of gear ratios inside so best sticking to a GTi one if you're keeping it as a road car. Let me know if you want a GTi box. I have some kicking about in the loft of my garage

the markings on it are "20dm17" quick search on gum/bay reveal costy units... i was thinking more like 70quid... not 180!... plus where i live on the isle of wight... makes getting them here that little bit more costly...

for me to get to anywhere like liverpool or the mid regions...is a pain in the a**e.. i live on the isle of wight.. haha...so its £40quid for the ferry and £60 worth of diesel to collect anything... then the cost of the box, a meal out, it turns into a very costly affair when a hdi box is sat down the scrappers for 40quid...

plus ive not driven the car yet so i dont know what its going to be like, or even if im going to keep it...

The respective way, i think will be to throw a box in and see if it passes the MOT, run it for a bit and see what niggles it has... then go from there...

had to laugh... in the site top banner.. there's pics of an M&M's 206 gti...looks like a "vw polo harlequin".... i see it nearly everyday, the chap lives in ryde.. looks much better in the photo than out on the street... lol
