why would you jump to the timing belt? if its been replaced at its intervals it will be fine, if it hasnt you should get it done regardless of whether the ticking is that or not Razz

could be the lifters? ive heard other people on here say that they create a loud ticking noise

Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

Any work you undertake as a result of my posts is done so at your own risk Smile

i know on my old 2.0 hdi that noise means crankshaft bottom pulley but not sure if its same common fault - loud ticking noise on the 1.4 hdi aswell.

I still have this problem... Changed the timming belt. The sound increases with speed or more accurate the faster i go the faster the ticking sound comes... Sounds as if coming from left side of engine area....

the bottom pulley is a comman problem, most people will agree this is the first port of call. remove the aux/fan belt and then run the engine ( for a short time ) see if the sounds changes.

Could be your auxilary belt? That's on the left side of my 1.6 engine, not sure about yours. Mine makes a slight ticking or taping noise in the cold
