Hi,
I've recently bought a 1.6 HDI GTI and have found that the car makes a whining/whistling noise when accelerating. I know from previous experience with Peugeot diesels (306 D turbo) that the turbos are quite noisy.
This noise happens between 1000-2000 RPM and in 4th or 5th gear and only when i'm accelerating.
I have had the car checked out at a Peugeot dealer, and they tested the turbo which came back fine.
I just wanted to ask you guys opinion, is it just that the HDI turbo's are normaly noisy, or is it something else which could be making the noise?

Dont worry about it! I have a 2.0 hdi and my turbo is quite noisey in that same rpm range, its just the turbo spooling up boost!

My 1400hdi is quite vocal from the turbo when it's spoiling up...

Turbo doesn't spool until 1900rpm. So whistling under that is unsual. You can't hear mine until after the 2k mark and even then its not loud until later on.
This turbo is only 1000miles old and noise is amplified with the de-cat.

I think every 206 hdi is noisey, well everyone ive been in has been

Mine was never that noisey, you could hear it spooling up over 2k revs but never that loud.

mines likes to whistle i got worried to start with but think it is normal. its not stupid but you can deffo hear it.

My 1.4HDI whistles too at high speeds and when accellerating slowly, when building up speed. It doesn't do anything between say 15mph and 50mph but in 1st gear and 5th gear it whistles a bit. I always thought it was the turbo really and thought nothing of it.

Thanks for your views guys.
I just wanted to make sure that there wasn't something seriously wrong. The car has only done 21,000 miles so I didn't expect that the turbo should be on its way out yet!
