There is a spring inside the inner boot on ether driveshaft; Do Peugeot do these separately? I am struggling to find them online.

Mine is snapped. I tried to go without it and its just poped the driveshaft out of the spline on my new CV joint. I think they are f****d on both sides because when I recently changed my wishbones it was a right (insert profanities). The shafts didn't go far enough in to get the bottom ball joint on. I think the spring is stuck sideways inside on the other side like it was in the one I just took off.

get a used shaft off crappy or ebay?
the oem shaft tends to be quite reliable if the boot wasn't damaged/ changed regularly.

I am going to get a whole new shaft for one side. For some reason the old CV joint would not come off the shaft and the only way to get it off was to smash it off and grind the spline off. It did slightly damage the thread. However I could do with a spring for the other side but there is no point buying a whole new shaft for that side as well.

i doubt you can get a new oem shaft? think all oem shaft are re-con shaft now.
and new pattern shaft are s***
you could always ask the re-con shaft company to check if they can get you some spring; i can't see that parts on service box so i doubt you can buy them from pug dealer

I got a second hand shaft from a scrappy which was in pretty good condition. for the one side. Unfortunately it was a 1.4 shaft as that is all they had, I have fitted it but is it likely to cause any problems? Also I lost about half a litre of gearbox oil. It was full or near enough full before so should I still top it up or will it be fine?

i don't know what car is yours.
but all MA box use the same shaft.
and no, you need to top up the gear oil; full capacity is about 1.9L so half a litre is a huge loss.

Good point. its like 25% I suppose. Its a 1.1 sorry. The shaft is bigger I measured it. That is why the new shaft would not go into the old shafts inner joint. Meaning I had to remove the rest of the shaft from the gearbox and put the complete new shaft in.

you sure your old shaft is oem shaft? i know some of the cheap shaft are thinner.
but either way it should fit the the differential
and gear oil is cheap anyway. think the total BV4 75w/80 was only 5 quid for a litre
