My 206 HDI frequently has a steering problem. As I turn the wheel it feels like something grips it so it becomes really hard to turn. Often it needs to be forced round to unstick the wheel. This occurs at all speeds it seems and at any angle/rotation.

The dealer's taken a look twice and hasn't a clue.

I can't believe I'm the only 206 owner with this problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

The timing belt should never ever "slip off" lol are you certain you dont mean aux belt.

Please Dont take any of my posts as written fact. They are simply my opinion and although to the best of my knowledge true, the information within them may well be incorrect.

Any work you undertake as a result of my posts is done so at your own risk Smile

that would then mean loss of battery power, so could of been the power steering going

The problem has existed for several years now but has become more frequent recently. The car has been worked on over the years by both a Peugeot dealer and a reputable local garage. So I don't think what I'm experiencing isn't due to some sudden, one-off event like a timing belt problem.

More thoughts anyone? Thanks.

Tricky but I think I'd check the track rod ends for stiffness, sometimes, holding the rod end whilst someone carefully moves the steering for you then you can feel it binding. Look for damaged boot covers on them that would allow water in

Make sure it's nothing obvious like car mat getting in the way Very Happy

Other than that then i think I'd check for stiffness in the steering rack itself, maybe raise the front and turn the steering
