failed on co, limit is 0.3 my reading was 0.50.checking exhaust found like a pin hole at the rear of the back box,maybe a dumb question but is it meant to be there i suspect not.going to chuck some wynns in the tank and give it a good blast before next test,any advice on back box would be appreciated.

Unlikely to be a hole in the back box. More likely a fault with the catalytic convertor or a lambda sensor.

funny thing i had a vectra with 1.0 fail and to my surprise with some wynns emmissions reducer few days before and a hard run before re-test worked a treat, (only needed it to scrape through so i could get rid with 12months)

I agree. Always some kind of fuel system cleaner a few weeks before the test to let it work through and then get the car nice and warm before dropping it off for the MOT gives it much more chance of passing emmisons

No point in using fuel cleaner waste of money, you get it in the expensive shell fuel known a V Power, Top the car up with about 20 quid worth it and keep engine running for 30-40 mins prior to test..
Should pass otherwise it will be costly!!

the vectra i had that failed was full of V power and had been for a while lol (had a shell company card so didnt pay for it so always had vpower)
£5 for some wynns stuff and passed

quick follow up,used wynns twice with about 1/3 of a tank each time,driving like i stole it,emissions exactly the same result.trip to euro car parts buy cat, fit cat,emissions sorted.wish i had never heard of this snake oil stuff.wasted a good bit of time,money,petrol.lesson learnt i suppose.

The pin hole in the bottom of the back box is a weep hole for water. Was told this last week at the tyre/ exhaust place.

Correct BUT the designed in water trap further up the system rots out the middle pipe instead

It would have to have been made like this otherwise it would have failed for having a hole in the exhaust.
It's not always practical to give the car a 30 minute run before the test. I leave mine at the garage all day, and they do it whenever the mechanic gets the time. In this case, a 30 minute run would just be a waste of time and fuel as it could be sat in the car park for 6 hours before it's touched. If the garage leave it idling to warm up while doing other checks, then it's going to build up emissions anyway, then if the garage is half decent the mechanic will rev the balls off the engine before conducting the test.
Fuel additives do work, and so does Shell v-power. Both work out a similar price (if you fill the tank). Asda occasionally have offers on Redex. Worth looking in there and Tesco to find the offers.
