that pin is part of the differential and the reason for the old gearbox not having one might be because that is what caused it to fail? does the gearbox have slight variations depending on the year of the car?

No I have been told the gearboxes are the same. So the pin may still be in the end of this gearbox hence it not fitting?

the pin should be in there, at a guess, really need to see it. could be thinking of different pins

Ok thanks for your help, I am getting the driveshaft that was in this box on Friday so I will know more then, will take some photos if I am still having problems.

I have been told the shafts can be different. I was speaking to a gearbox re-conditioners and they said some of the shafts are half an inch longer on the spline.

are those genuine shafts that can be longer or patend parts?

Well I tracked down where the gear box came from and asked for the driveshaft aswell. They sent it yesterday and it definately is smaller. Will check tomorrow but god knows which gearbox I have fitted!!!

could it be a 106/ saxo box?

i know 106's use to have different length driveshafts because they had different depth hub nuts depending on the shaft so might be the same case with the 206's
