Pls read on,I know it s a tad long, wanted to give as much info
18 months ago we had a new cambelt fitted, the mechanic said as the car had only done 28k it was like new and not leaking.the car is a 52 plate 1.4 8v.
So 18 months on....
I services the car in june and everythings was fine with the water,on max in the header tank,so I know it had water.
Then at the beginning of september (3 months approx) I went under it to patch the exhaust downpipe for the MOT,,I noticed the header tank was empty of water ..EEEEEK!!..checked around could find anything only some rusty looking water which looked like the water pump.I filled the header up (5weeks ago) today and been using it getting quotes.
Now in 5 weeks, including a 60 mile run up the motorway yesterday the car hasn't lost any water (I marked it)...but there was water on the water pump end,I seen 1 small dry run stain, and a little collection on water in the rim of the sump on that end.
A mechanic looked under it on friday and said "I cant see any water coming from it) now its not doing it.
Any ideas please could do with the help,,,do water pumps seal back up,is there another reason why water was there in that area.Ive got it booked in for wed, costing £200 to do
Thank everyone for any input

Should have replaced it anyway while the cambelt was being done.

Yeah I know he should of,,as its now going to cost £200 to do with a belt (not tesioner). But an old ford mechanic mate poped up yesterday, not seen him for years,,said he will put a belt and pump on for £40 labour (but he tends to disapear so not the most reliable person ),,I have to get the parts
He aslo said he could see any leakage form that area even though I had seen the water myself..im so puzzled as its not lost any now in 5 weeks.

Hi yes it has,,well 28-29k when the belt was done 18months ago it has just under 30k now.
We bought the car from a peageot dealer when it was 3 months old I think it had 2-3k on it,,Its my other halfs..she hardly does any miles. Its parked up a lota and she puts the millage on my work horse... ... We are selling it soon though for something newer.

Cheers buddy, thats made my mind up,ill get it done..gutted the garage never insisted on doing the pump last year..I had my polo done at 105k in march and the garage I took mine in insisted.
Better to be safe I suppose, was just wanting to know more i guess that there is nothing else around that area to leak,,no hidden valve etc..which i know there isnt now.
cheers mate
