I have a spare starter motor, might change it and see if the car will start

ouch! after fitting the new starter motor you could just try welding up the hole as well lol!

I've heard a story where a tractor threw a rod, and managed to put a hole in the block both sides of the engine. The driver got out, looked at it and could see daylight through the engine.....

My brother has this happen on a 306 diesel He managed to drive it the 5 miles home,granted it made a hell of a noise though

And can be quite scary if it happen's on the motorway at 70mph. I remember it quite well when it happened to me because I did a unexpected poo that day and it wasn't even me driving
