Hi guys,
Got my Gti on the road now and checking it over to get it ready for it's track day, there seems to be a knocking noise not all the time but more noticeable on rough ground and bumps which seems to come from the nearside of the car. I've got underneath and had a look, i've replaced the track rod ends (both sides) it's had a new lower wishbone and drop links. Which only leaves wheel bearing and cv joint which I would expect to happen all the time. The spring is in good condition, and with no signs of leak the shock seems ok as there isn't any crashing.
I then had a look around for anything else and could only find the engine mount looking like it's been bodged? Although looks to be in good condition where there is some gaps in the rubber which seems there should be looking at originals; there seems to be some type of rubber spaghetti forced into it

yea its not genuine spaggeti haha replice it or if its making squezing noise just put some oil on it hehhe but my advice is buy new one and repleace it because its holding your engine in position

Thats a bodge.... take out the spaghetti, there is suppose to be two air gaps each side on the rubber. Check your top engine mount for play. They do break.
Check that pinch polt through the bush while your there, is it me or is there shiny metal in the centre of the bush?

while we are on the topic of engine mounts..  mine has quite a lot of wiggle room either side of the top engine mount (one near ecu) do you know how much there should be?

Broke a top mount on my old 405, that used to eat engine mounts for some reason

I've only had a brief look when I took the pics but from memory the same bracket has the driveshaft going through it, whats the easiest way to remove the bracket and I guess the bush is just pressed in place? Would a standard vice be good enough to press it out/fit new?

I can supply you with a Vibratechnics bush. Check out my discount section post....You will need a press ideally, I have a spare bracket here that I can press a new bush into for you on an exchange basis.
