I am having some electrical problems (shock).
The car won't start. I turned the ignition on and the instruments were illuminated and the comms controls were not working. The car didn't fire. All fuses were fine. I still had a spare comms unit so I changed it but it still didn't start. The controls are working as they should though.
Any Ideas? It seems like an immobiliser issue but I can hear that the fuel pump is priming.

Sounds like its lost a node on the CAN system.
Reboot the BSI would be first port of call.

I found the fault. One of the wires on the ribbon cable (That comes through the steering wheel) has broken on the plug. After some precision soldering I managed to repair the tiny wire and it started.
One small problem remains though. A headlight does not work. Thought it was down to the comms but obviously not. The bulbs works fine and the fuse is fine. There is power going through the fuse while its in and there is power at the plug end. I also touched the multimeter to the battery and earthed it to the headlight plug and that works so I don't know what to try next.

There is power going to the plug, and the bulb works.
Sounds like it's the earth return from the bulb not completing the circuit somewhere in the wiring.

I know. I ran the car for about 2 years with virtually no problems at all. Then everything started going wrong at the same time its crazy. I still have my other unsolvable electrical issues.
But back on topic I am going to run a new earth for that bulb and see if it works. Its got to be that, but you never know with my car its got phantom electrics.
