Ever since i replaced my radiator there has been alot of white gas (steam i think) coming from the exhaust. What would have caused this? It disappears when the car gets warmer

I can see steam from my exhaust when the engine is cold but once warmed up it goes.

ok its obviously in excess overwise i wouldnt be moaning about it. just wondered if it could be connected to the radiator replacement

Your excess is different to my excess which is different to panzer360gti.....etc
If you aren't losing water then it's just steam

If the level in the header tank stays the same you need not worry, If however it keeps dropping and you get yoghurt in your oil then you have a head gasket problem.... I always think that a bit of water vapour on start-up is the sign of a good AFR

Start worrying when its coming from your bonnet, like mine did other day, due to me forgetting to clip the hose back over the thermostat! doh!

I'll have a look at my exhaust smoke tomorrow morning when its really cold, and see if its excessively so, or just more than I'd get when its a bit warmer.
the point being, large amounts of smoke (well, clouds of condensed water vapour) are not unusual and nothing to worry about; but if there is another issue to do with the recently replaced radiator, then obviously further investigation is needed. I'd not be too worried though, since the radiator and exhaust are not connected - the coolant system is a sealed system with recirculating coolant, and the path of intake air - engine (cylinders) - exhaust is a separate path. The only places they'd come together is in fault conditions such as a blown head gasket - but not a faulty radiator.

I promised to get back to you so here it is: this morning was once again much colder than previous ones, it was -2°C here. On starting my engine, there was a large quantity of white water vapour. I also looked at many other cars on the roads, all emitting lots of white cloudy vapour from their exhausts. I also checked the quad, the telehandler and 3 tractors at work - so a mix of petrol and diesels there - all the same.

ok thank you for your help everyone. just hoping that there's not a blown gasket. could it have anything to do with my new induction kit?
